DrunkenRaisins Secret Recipe

The DrunkenRaisin recipe ain’t just the stuff in it; it already goes far beyond the recipes you find elsewhere. There’s also great value in the process itself. Let us explain what you need to do to make them correctly.
‘Don’t use rum with raisins.’

Start with a jumbo golden raisin, which is about four times larger than the undernourished boxed raisin you get from the grocery store shelf. We buy bulk from the packers in California. You, however, might find them in a health food grocery store, and they will run $6 to $9 a pound.

Place your raisins in a glass container (or plastic if you know it’s food-safe), with an available top. Fill the container to about 75%, leaving room for them to grow after adding gin and other ingredients.

Select the best gin you can find with the flavor most influenced by the juniper berry. The juniper berry is one of the most critical agents in your recipe. (Side note: Add liquid juniper berry to our recipe to enhance its anti-inflammation value. This along with liquid turmeric, a known powerful pain-relieving agent, would be an excellent combination. You can purchase these items in your local health store.) Now, you need a pint of gin for a pound of raisins, and the right gin will set you back between $7 and $10 a pint. The liquid turmeric and juniper berry is very expensive but will be around for many batches.

First, add the cinnamon to your container of raisins sprinkling it across the surface. We suggest you use the Cinnamomum verum cinnamon out of Sri Lanka and not the grocery store cassia kind generally from China. (Two different trees.) You can find the right cinnamon in the health food store. As a side note, it would be preferable for you to use cinnamon bark oil as it’s 10 times more powerful…BUT some people break out with hives with only a minor amount of the ingredient. Not particularly harmful but irritating, nevertheless.

Next step is to add the gin to your container until it’s about 1 to 2 fingers above the raisins. The raisins will expand to about 3 or four fingers above the gin over a two-week marinating period. After you’ve added the gin, seal the container…tight, and start shaking it with vigor for about 15 to 20 shakes. When you set it down the raisins will be peeking through the top of the gin.

Each day, for the next two weeks, you need to shake the container during this marinating period. This effectively expands the raisin to absorb the gin AND cleaning the sulfur dioxide coating from every golden raisin. We use large round containers, which are regularly rolled to provide this action.

At the end of 8 or 9 days open your container and add hot honey. We use clover honey, but your options can go to other honey sources. We suggest you find honey by bees in your region since they are more compatible with the air you breathe and the food from local farmers you eat.

Day 14 you can empty your container into a colander to drain away the fluids. Let them sit for about 20 minutes. As an option you can a pour them over a large flat pan, spreading them evenly, and put them into the oven at a low temperature to draw down some of the alcohol. We don’t suggest this option unless you are acutely bothered by the alcohol taste.

Put the treated raisins back into a sealed container and leave them on your countertop. Not necessary to refrigerate. They’re now handy and ready to consume 8 to 10 a day.

Control the Cost of Good Health - Jeff

DrunkenRaisins are positioned as a simple, low-cost home remedy that many users report taking daily to help ease chronic arthritis pain and stiffness. They are made from common food ingredients rather than synthetic pharmaceuticals, so they offer an appealing option for people hoping to reduce reliance on costly prescription drugs and their potential side effects. While individual experiences are often positive, this approach has not been proven equivalent to standard medical therapies, so DrunkenRaisins are best viewed as a complementary strategy that may provide symptom relief and financial savings for some arthritis sufferer under medical supervision.

Honey I’m Home - Rosie

Honey is a nutrient-dense natural sweetener rich in flavonoids and polyphenols that exhibit meaningful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. Experimental and early clinical data show honey can downregulate key inflammatory pathways (including NF-κB and MAPK) and reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines, while supporting immune balance and tissue repair. When used alongside gin-soaked DrunkenRaisins, honey can act as a complementary matrix that adds its own polyphenol profile to the juniper, cinnamon, and golden raisin components, potentially enhancing overall antioxidant capacity and gentle anti-inflammatory support within a largely food-based, natural regimen.

Know the Raisin - Noah

Jumbo golden raisins provide a dense, natural package of potentially helpful compounds. The DrunkenRaisin aficionado considers them “the best all-natural anti-inflammatory food in the world.” They contain polyphenols, small amounts of vitamins, fiber, and sulfur dioxide–related compounds, all of which may contribute modest antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. In folk remedies like DrunkenRaisins, jumbo golden raisins act as the carrier for juniper-rich gin and adjunct spices, concentrating these ingredients into a convenient daily portion. The overall anti-inflammatory eFect is supported by thousands of anecdotal consumer comments, but has yet to be proven in a multimillion- dollar double-blind study.

Cinnamon - Jessica

Cinnamon from Sri Lanka, often called Ceylon or “true” cinnamon, contains potent polyphenols and cinnamaldehyde that help calm overactive inflammatory pathways. Studies show that Sri Lankan cinnamon extracts can reduce inflammatory signals, including nitric oxide, TNF-α, IL-6, and COX-2 activity, mechanisms closely tied to joint pain and arthritis. When this high-quality cinnamon is incorporated into the DrunkenRaisins process, it adds a layer of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory support on top of the juniper-rich gin and golden raisins.

Juniper Berry influenced Gin - Brittney

Juniper berries used to make gin contain antioxidant and anti-inflammatory plant compounds that, in theory, help calm inflammatory pathways related to arthritis. When gin is used to soak jumbo golden raisins, you also get antioxidants and sulfur-related compounds from the raisins, while the actual amounts of active juniper and sulfur are small the benefit from this original folk remedy is no longer a rumor. Many people still enjoy a daily spoonful of these “drunken raisins,” and DrunkenRaisins has become a well-known resource for properly prepared gin-and-juniper–based raisin products for many who rely on this traditional approach.
